Reform project
In order to meet the needs of economy in future and the present needs of individuals concerning new work places and trained workers; EU helps Serbian Government in creating this significant reform of secondary school education .
High School of Tourism is involved in the second phase of this reform. At the beginning of 2007/ 2008 schoolyear, the school will be given some additional computer science equipment, video projectors, some modern kitchen appliances; all to make possible the teaching process to be organized according to European standards.
An ordinary black board, a piece of chalk or retold lesson from the textbook are the examples of so called "old school". In order to be interesting, school lesson today must be organized to meet children's habits of receiving information. New methods in teaching and insisting on practical training and inovations require teachers ready to meet these demands.
During this second phase of the Reform,as well as during the first phase, two teachers from each experimental school were elected to have the role either of internal or external reformer.
In Secondry School for Tourism these jobs are done by Jelena Stojsavljevic, MA in pedagogy,as an interior and Sasa Masic , MBA, as exterior bearer. Their basic tasks are to create interior school network and to support teachers in realization of new curricula,as well as to create contacts with other vocational schools in Serbia, local community,muninipal representatives and local institutions and students' parents.In order to be able to fulfill these demands school representatives should undertake some special training such as:

general training in methodology, pedagogy, comunications and work techniques

specified training in applied pedagogy,entrepreneurship,computer science,marketing projects and english language for careers

specified training for experimental profiles along with practice work in some companies and improving cooperation with the companies from the same field
Nine seminars are planned untill september 2007, when new schoolyear will start with new curricula, and in the meantime interior and exterior school representatives should share their knowledge with their colleagues.
Professional seminars and trainings will be organized for teachers and headmasters to prepare them to apply new curriculum at school and to manage according to the principles of modern management.
To apply this second phase of the Reform of secondary school education EU has obtained 6 million euros with the help of European Agency for Reconstruction.The total sum is going to be divided among the schools participating in the program.
The reform of secondary school education is being done with tehnical assistance of consortium led by a german consultancy GOPA.
The reform of secondary school education in tourism and catering is introduced as experimental program in 2007/ 2008 schoolyear. The Ministry of education and sport together with the Group for the implementation has chosen seven schools to apply new programs and to train waiters, cooks, pastry-cooks,and travel agents.
From 2007/2008 schoolyear on, three experimental classes will be enrolled in Secondary school for tourism. One as a four year course for travel agents,one as a three year course for waiters and one as a three year course for cooks. New teaching methods and programs will be applied in these classes together with the latest gadgets necessary for this kind of education.
